NEWS: Refurbished Marker Rededicated

A marker designating U.S. 13 in Seaford as the Blue Star Memorial Highway was recently rededicated.

Blue Star banners have been used since World War I to symbolize that a family member is in military service.
The marker in Seaford, located on the highway median just north of the intersection with Norman Eskridge Highway, has been in its present location for many years and had become weatherworn.

The Spade and Trowel Garden Club, in cooperation with the Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs (DFGC), was responsible for originally erecting the marker -- one of only eight in the state.

After being approached by garden club members, the City of Seaford and State Rep. Danny Shortjointly funded the restoration.

On Thursday (10/18), a color guard from the Seaford High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps joined Rep. Short, Spade and Trowel Garden Club President Carol Johnson, Seaford City Manager Charles Anderson (in top photo, right), and officials with the Delaware Department of Transportation to rededicate the memorial.
Constituent Coffee Meeting to be held November 7th
Join State Rep. Danny Short on November 7th for his next monthly constituent coffee meeting.
The 150th General Assembly will officially begin on Election Day -- the day before the meeting.  Rep. Short will be discussing the voters' choices and what impact they might have on the policies to be considered by state lawmakers.

The hour-long Coffee with Danny meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month during the fall, winter, and spring.  They are intended to give residents of the 39th District a convenient opportunity to speak with their representative about whatever is on their minds.
The Nanticoke Senior Center (1001 W. Locust St., Seaford) hosts the gatherings starting at 8 a.m.

State Rep. Danny Short was in Dover Saturday morning as firefighters from around the state gathered to dedicate the new Delaware Firefighters' Memorial.

Located on the southeast corner of Legislative Mall, the memorial consists of a bronze casting of a firefighter, an obelisk, and several granite blocks on which the names of 57 Delaware firefighters killed while serving the state are inscribed.

Rep. Short is a past chief of the Seaford Volunteer Fire
Department and has been a member of the organization for more than 30 years.
